For the past few years, firearms and shooting sports have grown in popularity among women. Firearms have always been an integral part of shooting culture, from the development of guns to the folklore of the Wild West. Without these women’s contributions, the world of firearms may not be the same. Here we will look at three such women.

Jane Frazier

Jane Frazier was kidnapped in 1755 and was taken by a band of Delaware Indians deep into the Ohio Valley. She enjoyed shooting and knew her way around the guns. After eighteen months into her captivity, Jane Frazier stole a broken musket, repaired it, and made her escape via a canoe packed with supplies and weaponry. She made it home to her family after a rough trek. Her story is nothing but motivating and courageous.

Calamity Jane

Calamity Jane was a legendary figure of the American West. She was a gunslinger, frontier woman, and scout known for being an acquaintance of Wild Bill Hickok. She was noted for her compassion for the oppressed and sick. She also appeared in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show. She is one of the famous and renowned western personalities associated with Deadwood, South Dakota.

Annie Oakley

Annie Oakley is one of the most iconic sharpshooters and performance shooters in the history of shooting sports. She became famous while touring with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show. Her shooting skills were incredible, even by modern standards. She was recognized for splitting the edges of playing cards 20 paces, shooting cigarettes held in her husband’s lip, and much more.

She was recognized as a significant influence on the image of the American cowgirl. However, she was comfortable with almost all firearms, including rifles and shotguns.
